LARRY, I STARTED OUT WITH A RABBIT DISTRESS MOUTH CALL.THE BRAND DOESN'T REALLY MATTER.THEY ALL SEEM TO WORK WELL AND IT DOESN'T TAKE MUCH PRACTICE TO GET THE HANG OF IT. A MOUSE SQEEKER WORKS GOOD FOR CLOSE UP CALLING.HOWLERS WORK GREAT BUT TRY TO GET GOOD WITH ONE BEFORE YOU TRY IT IN THE FEILD.COYOTES ARE SMART AND YOU WILL ONLY EDUCATE ONE BY DOING IT WRONG.AND THEY DON'T FORGET LOL !

IF YOUR INTERESTED, I HAVE THE RANDY ANDERSON SERIES OF VIDEOS ''CALLING ALL COYOTES'' I WILL LOAN YOU. IT TAUGHT ME ALOT.  SEND ME A P.M. WITH YOUR ADDRESS AND I'LL MAIL THEM TO YOU.

ALSO, LOOK BACK THROUGH SOME OLD POSTS UNDER THE PREDATOR THREADS AND YOU SHOULD FIND WHERE WE HAVE TALKED ABOUT THIS BEFORE .GOOD LUCK !!!

I've tried just about everything on the market around here. The only time I ever got a response was with a fawn in distress call.

Get yourself a rabbit distress, mouse squeeker and a good sounding howler. Then add to your arsenal later with the woodpecker and other variety of calls. Rabbit and howlers work the best for me!!

Larry,

I've always been a mouth call kind of guy, but I recently bought a little Johnny Stewart electronic call with remote. It was about $40.00, I can only get about 20-30 feet from the call, or else the remote does not work. I find using that thing, I'll stay on stand for much longer and have actually had really good luck with it. I never realized how handy these things could be. The sounds include cottontail, coyote howl, fighting pups, fawn and Jackrabbit. The volume is not spectacular, but it brings them in. I have all the time in the world to get the gun on them. When I see one I stop the call and kiss them in. That could be a good way to start. Then get a mouth call or two and mimic the sounds on the electronic caller. I live in the wide open spaces of central California and have watched coyotes come in from, literally, over a mile away. In the thick stuff, I assume you are in, the e-caller may free you up a bit. Lately all the coyotes I've called in a shot have been well under 100 yards. Back when I began calling, as soon as they were within 250 yards I'd shoot. Not anymore, I get them in close now. I find that I get more in tune to watching how they come to the call, not just that they are coming to the call. They are amazing to watch. Right now, at least here, they are paired up for mating and the last 4 or 5 that I've shot are males. The females tend to hang up, but the males come charging in. On Sunday I put out my decoy (Just a cardboard cut out in the shape of a coyote, painted) The males don't seem to like it very much as they come in pretty aggressive. I think using a decoy like this when they are paired up and mating will get you a lot of chances to take the males, but the females will be a little shy of it. You may miss some opportunities. The males get a little showy when they come in, walk sideways with hair standing on in, bouncing around and stuff like that. It's pretty cool.

Cool! Thanks Colin!!! Last night the wife and I went up to Gander Mtn. and bought a whole slew of the Primos Randy Anderson calls, so right now I am practicing and hopefully gonna try them out tonight out back at our farm just to see what comes in if anything.
Now all we need is some good coyote irons and good sights!
Maybe for christmas sweetie

if you went to Gander you seen the hotdog from Primo. if you want to travel light the hotdag is all you nead to get started. it does everything from adult howls, pup howls, wounded pups, maiting calls and all the rabbit distress calls you want. hell you could even play a tune for yourself if you have and music in your blood. when you master that call go get you a Red desert howler. it does it all also but cost a little more.

For hand calls another really nice call with a different sound is "tweety" and "Syco tweety" from the verminators company. But for the most part I like expensive electronics because I don't like to sing the rabbit blues until my lungs burn and I fall over from lack of oxygen.
