What would cause the wipers to work only in one speed in all delay positions?   Also they sometimes stop when the switch is on high position.

I'm thinking the motor is starting to go bad.

could also be in the switch itself, or where the wire harness plugs into the motor. Sometimes the contact plugs get corroded.

Depending on what kind of vehicle it is, I've seen relays create that type of condition also.

"1994 GMC Safari Mini Van."

Gary, the most likely cause on that vehicle from what I've seen over the years is the switch itsself. Unless you see any visable problems (cracked wire, corrosion build-up etc) its almost impossible to determine what the cause is. Unless you have a voltage tester, know how many volts are required for parts of the system to operate, and have a wireing chart for your vehicle.

While they are working, you can try wiggleing the switch, and see if the speed will vary at all, if it does, chanced are you just found the problem.

Or, you can drive 200 miles down here and we'll check er for ya

They stay in one speed no matter what the position of the switch is in, and jiggling the switch does nothing.

Go to the wiper motor, look at the connector. Is it pluged in tight?
If it is read on.
Turn on the ign switch, turn on the wiper switch to the low setting. At the wiper motor probe the gray wire, the test light should light up or the DMV should show 12 volts.
If it has power (12 volts)  there read on.
Turn the switch to high and test the gray wire again. You should have 12 volts again or the test light lights up.
If it does then the module on the wiper motor is more than likely bad.

If you have a DMV I can give you a trouble tree chart to follow to be postive.

GM products will blow that module many times if you try to clear large amounts of snow off the windsheild.
Also most GM products use the same switch and wiper moters and modules so you can get one second hand from a salvage yard. Two nuts to loosen on the transmission arm and 3 small bolts hold the motor to the fire wall and one wiring harness to unplug.

Yes it is a volt meter that measures resistance too as well as amps.
Need one to use the trouble tree I have.
