went to the farm i intend to hunt on this deer season nd had a few surprises.. the first one was J hooked turkey droppings we all know what that means, don't we ..ole tom is there for the taking..next,i have 3 pics on the trailcam aiming at a saltlick i made(added pears to it today ) and then ,i thought i had found a scrape mbecause the grass was torn all out of the ground in a3 ft. longated circle.after a closer look, there was a hole that had been dug deeply in the ground ,and yellowjackets still buzzing in and out of the hole ,so i'm guessing what ever it was did'nt get the nest..what could this be.. i have a feeded there so corn is on the ground, would a turkey dig after yelloyjackets like that or do i have some other critter browsing arround? |

I am not sure about turkey but I know skunks, coons and bear will go after yellow jacket nests. I have a determined skunk digging at mine in my back yard the last couple nights. |

Run out there with a stick and swing at it Joe, that'll scare it away. |

hey TG ,how big of a hole and how far back was the dirt scattered from the nest entrance aftert thje skunk got finished .. the nest hole is now big arround as a quart jar and dirt was scattered ,say' 4ft back from the entrance and about 2ft wide..i thiught it was a scrape when i first saw it. i have a stealthcam that uses 35 mm film and 3 pics have been taken since sat morn. i figure since whatever it is has found the yellowjackets and not taken them out yet will be back,so,the feeder and the salt lick and pears will just be icing on the cake .maybe i'll have a roll full of pics by te week end |

must be after the larva, I don't think they would mess with the nest if the yellow jackets are still there |

yellowjackets are still workin' the hole that i found..if them raskles are diggin' that fast and throwin' dirt that far while workin on the nest,, then i ain't messin with them i think it is something of good size diggin' in the entrance, cause it's about the size of a quart jar.goin' back tomorrow to see if the nest is still active or if i get more pics of what it might be. |

Can you get close enough to see if there are any foot prints in the fresh dirt? |

If you want to be sure the yellow jackets are killed get a bottle of Ortho liquid Sevin follow instructions and mix with water pour into hole and I will guarantee it will kill them. I did this at camp 2 years ago. I just poured the Ortho liquid Sevin in an ice cream bucket (about a cup) and filled it with water and poured it in the hole. Worked great problem solved. |
