Congrats!!! I sure hope you get one!! You guys have to put in for a bear tag?? We get to buy our over the counter. you can hunt the whole state. It starts with the first day of the opening zone for deer season, till Dec. 31, or 1700 bears are killed.

Airman this all came about many years ago when black bear were elevated to a big game animal. Prior to that they could be shot during the 16 day deer firearm season as a bonus animal with your valid deer license.

Thanks everyone for the encouragement. Like I said before, it has taken me 6 years to secure this tag. So, it is a pretty big deal for me. The unit that I'll be hunting(Baraga) encompasses a vast area of land. Of which is my original deer camp where the Thunderbucks name was born. Which makes this excursion even more special. Gonna try to hold out for a "Thunderbuck" kinda bear, but only time will tell how it turns out. I'm really hoping that I can find time to visit my dear friends Timberghost, Bluejay, and Wingshooter while I'm up there, but them guys know me well enuff to understand that the visiting time will be determined by the success of the hunting time.
