Read this in the Woods-N-Water News:

It appears our lawmakers have noticed the family outdoors movement, specifically in regards to hunting. Senate Majority Leader-elect Randy Richardville R-Monroe has introduced legislation that would rescind the minimum age requirements for young hunters in Michigan. Richardville said, "Hunting is an active family-friendly outdoor activity, and Michigan;s heritage is rich with hunting families. Hunters who learn from a parent or mentor at an early age will carry safe habits with them the rest of their lives. Parents have the ability to decide when their children are mature enough to hunt, as some young people may be ready to hunt much sooner than others."
Combining this philosophy with the declining numbers of hunters and poor hunter recruitment in our state, according to Senator Richardville's press release, "Senate Bill 1589 would require the Natural Resources Commission(NRC) to create a "Mentored Youth Hunting Safety Program" that would give youth younger than 17 the opportunity to hunt with an adult hunting mentor. Rather than focusing on a minimum hunting age, the NRC would establish specific guidelines for the program to allow young people to hunt with a licensed, experienced mentor at least 21 years old."
Senator Richardville also cited Michigan currently as having some of the most stringent regulations on youth hunting in the nation, causing fewer young people to enjoy the outdoor sport. He also stressed the economy value of hunting to our state which annually means over one $1 billiong in spending, nearly 20,000jobs and 150 million in taxes.
MUCC has pledged their support to this legislation.

At least someone up there has finally pulled their heads out of their butts! Now to see if it will pass!
