As usual, I hit one last night about midnight. I was using my NV setup, with 32 grain hyoer velocity segmented hollow points. I hit him very well, and have been tracking him since this morning. Taxidermist said 48 max to get a mount done, because of that blue belly stuff. Going rite now to get a blood tracker light, and see if I can pick up, where I left off. I'm thinkin he backtracked though. I'll kepp ya posted.

Well the blood trail went about 400 yards. It was zig zaggin, and the yote must have been all disoriented. He lost alot of blood, and the trail stopped. I am sooooo sick of shooting these with rimfired because of the DNR's regulations. If that same exact scenario would have happened, and I had a .223 AR 15, instead of a .22 lr Ar 15, he would have died almost instantly. The stupid part is, I am 6 miles from the Indiana border, and you can use a centerfire at night. I'm rethinkin this whole thing about not breakin the rules. I myself respect all animals, even coyotes, enough to NOT want to make them suffer like that. I feel the DNR need to change this rule, and until then, I might not obey it. This is getting stupid. 4 different ones with rimfires, all had a blood trail, but no carcusses. They won't let people hunt deer with rimfires, so why coyotes? Coyotes never sit still. I never see them standin in one spot, like I do deer. Anyways, I have gave up on tracking this one, unless the crows help me with it today.

I feel for ya buddy, don't know what else to say. I do not follow yote hunting enough to know if this is a problem with any particular round, to give any worth while advise.

Thanks Kipp. I just changed ammo, from 32 grain segmented hollow points, to 36 grain hyper velocity Velocitors. I'm wonderin if maybe the bullets didn't penetrte deep enough, before they "segmented" I do know that I was using other brands of ammo when I hit the other ones. SO, so far, no luck. It's REALLY frustraiting to put it lightly. Noone seems to care either, or act like it's a bad thing that he died slowly, or is still just wounded sevierely. I had more blood on his trail, than I did on my 5 point buck last year. Honestly. When I came up to my buck, I was 20 yards from him, and he was just laying there, looking at me. I finished him off with a neck shot, to not ruin any meat.
IT does suck that your restricted to rimfire todd. I hate to lose any animal to a slow death or injury but I know your doing the best you can with what they will let you use.We all know the gooberment isn't the sharpest tool in the shed

Well, the farmers around here, and all the property owners absolutely HATE coyotes. They think they are worthless creatures, that need to be wiped off the face of the planet. Their exact words actually. So, the S&W 15 sport is going to be ordered very soon. I might put the NV scope on it when I get that back, and i might not. EIther way, I do know that I am convinced that a.22 lr is NOT the rite weapon for the job. I have a .magnum, and a .17hmr but they are not the rite style weapon for any NV. Best I could do without breaking any laws, would be the Magnum research .22 mag semi auto. WHich is what I intended to put this NV on, but the damn gun is sooooo hard to find, that my friend who owns the shop, said to not really bother with it. Tough call, about the .223. But I think ANY DNR officer if I ever was to come across one at night, SHOULD understand what I'm talkin about, and how they need to change it. But that's IF I go that route. EIther way I get a new assault rifle! So, I can't go wrong

There was one hit by a vehicle about a mile from my house the way the crow flies. Then the one I shot. The pack is down to two. It's kinda weird listening to the "ciyi" it seems more like ... well... two coyotes howling. LOL

With deer season going, the yotes will be more active. I'm convinced that they hear the gunshots, and investigate for a possible wounded deer, or a gut pile. Easy food, is easy food.
I tell ya what I live right by a old mining pit that we just got access to for fishing biking hiking etc and tonight I heard at least 1 real close to the house hope they are not after my wifey's chickens she will break out the heavy artillery the 2 chocolate labs lol the older 1 is very expierenced at killing critters in the yard if we didnt live in the city limits I would break out the 270 and start practicing on how to calm down

We hear multiple packs every night at my house. They stay in a cattle field and i guess they are breeding or something. Last night it was amazing on how long they would howl and how many were howling. Guess they need a dirt nap. I have a rabbit squealer call, I guess that and a weapon is all that would be needed? I have never went to just kill a yote, but kill them on sight when ever i do see them. Hey Yote do you hunt them during the day or only at night?

two more busted bumpers this week. I have almost talked myself into a new season...since I can't find 90-100grain rounds for my .270, and don't have a loader.....that means a new rifle right

Sounds like a plan to me Larry! If it works out half as good as turkey huntin with ya, I'm GAME! Jeff, I usually hunt them at night. I have hunted them during the day, and had no luck, or very little. My schedule, as far as when it's a good time for me to go out, works out GREAT for nighttime hunting too. That plays a HUGE part on when I go. I love hunting coyotes the most out of ANY animal. Squirrels, are fun, prairiedogs are a blast, deer are good eatin. But yotes are the only one I actually take seriously. Even the gear I have. I have 3 or 4 or more times the amount invested in yotes, than anything else. The nightvision riflescope I had bought made a HUGE difference too. It is bein repaired, but I'm trading it in on a 2nd generation, waterproof one. For nighttime hunting, I really suggest a nice weapon mounted light, such as a Streamlight TLR-1, which is what I use, with a red dot, or a riflescope turned down to 3 or 4 power. BUt if ya have about $500 to spend the ATN MK 410 SPartan NV riflescope is bad to the bone! Just make sure ur rifle only weighs 6 pounds or so, cause that weighs 3.8, by itself. The new 2nd Generation only weighs 2.7, so that's a big plus too. I just need more knockdown power though.
